Summer Jobs Service (SJS)
To Be Eligible For a Subsidized Placement, Students Must Be:
15-24 years of age, up to 29 for persons with disabilities as defined by the Ontario Human Rights Commission.
Planning to return to school in the fall;
Eligible to work in Canada;
Hired by a person whom they are NOT related (for example, son, daughter, spouse, brother, sister);
Not currently working for the employer applying for the hiring incentive.
Exception: students whose part-time jobs (24 hours per week or less) will be increased to full-time (35 hours per week or more) while participating in SJS.
To Be Eligible For A Subsidized Placement, Employers Must:
Operate and offer a job in Ontario;
Be in the private, non-profit or broader public sector (municipalities, schools, universities, colleges, hospitals);
Not be related to the student(s) they are hiring (for example, son, daughter, spouse, brother, sister);
Be in compliance with Workplace Safety and Insurance coverage, or alternate workplace safety insurance, and third party liability insurance coverage (contact for more details);
Not hire the student(s) before applying for the program;
Not displace existing staff with students hired through this program;
Not be receiving government funds from any other program for the same student job placement.
Information & Referral Services (IRS)
The IRS is a community resource centre which allows access
to information on careers and occupations, the local labour market, training
opportunities and job search strategies.
There is daily access to the following resources:
· Fax Machine
· Computers
· Job Bank
· Photo Copier
· Internet
Examples of software provided:
· WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information
System)
· Career Cruising
· Microsoft Office
· Step-by-step Learning Powerpoint 97
· Step-by-step Learning Access 97
Certificates will be presented upon completion of
workshops.
The IRS provides all participants with the knowledge and updated
employment/education referrals. This is the first step to training that we will
provide to support you.
Employment Preparation Program (EPP)
The EPP segment of the program has been designed for
individuals who require assistance in clarifying their employment needs and
assisting them in establishing short and long-term goals.
The objectives of the EPP include:
· Learning skills to conduct an effective job search
· Learning how to tap into the hidden job market
· Complete self-assessment exercises that will determine a variety of career
options
· Learning how to succeed during interviews
· Finding jobs faster than those who do not attend EPP
EPP participants will also develop an action plan that
identifies the steps required to meet their employment goals. Some workshops
available through EPP include:
· Exploring your individual job interests
· Marketing yourself
· Networking
· Researching
· Young Workers Awareness Program (safety)
The JDPS (Job Development Placement Service) is for
individuals who need to improve their employability and develop skills relevant
to their career goals.
We will assist the individual with this endeavor in a variety of ways.
